But two miles south of the ancient city (modern city center) are the ruins of Hammat Tiberias (the hot baths of Tiberias). Many Bible maps show Tiberias as being half way down the west coast of the Sea of Galilee, while satellite images show the modern city to be in "the armpit" of the NW bulge.
