I suggest &lt;A HREF="http://www.bombaxo.com/blog/?p=271" REL="nofollow"&gt;here&lt;/A&gt; that there's plenty of evidence supporting a Church of Mary Theotokos as the origin of the floorplan (and perhaps some elements still in use) of the Dome of the Rock.
